At Ellamour we aim to produce dogs that exemplify the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed standard for health, temperament, construction, soundness and breed type. Showing dogs is how we validate that the dogs we breed meet the breed standard and ultimately preserve this historic breed.
Generally, we don't plan more than 1 litter (sometimes 2) a year based on when we are ready to add another dog to our show team and breeding program. The result is that the puppies we don't keep from a litter go to lovely forever homes knowing that they have had the best and healthiest start in life.
We do NOT breed for profit but instead invest in bringing in semen from top proven international dog sires to add diversity to the gene pool with a focus on health.
All our breeding dogs are tested using DNA for Episodic Falling (EF), Curly Coat/Dry Eye (CC/DE). Our vet, who is also a breeder and on the Dogs NZ Canine Health and Welfare Committee, regularly performs thorough health and heart checks.
Our puppies come microchipped, registered with Dogs NZ, and with full pedigree papers but endorsed as not to be bred from. They will have had a through Vet examination, their first vaccination (at a minimum), be dewormed, and on a natural flea deterrent supplement. We provide new owners with a comprehensive starter pack including a bag of quality kibble, familiar toys, grooming tools, and a guide specific to raising your puppy from us. We also send them to new homes with 4 weeks no obligation free pet insurance from PD.
We welcome visits from prospective families to meet our cavaliers and see how they are raised. Ellamour Cavaliers are raised in our home and sleep indoors, not in exterior kennels. They are very much-loved members of our family which is what we wish for all our puppies that go to new homes.
