After leaving a successful corporate career in web design and development, to pursue art and design, I began working from home. With little knowledge of dogs or pedigree, I acquired my first puppy from TradeMe, a female Cavalier Cocker crossbreed to keep me company. A year later, I bought another cavalier crossbreed, but in time both developed early symptomatic heart issues (MVD) and died too young.
Due to this experience, I realised the importance of finding a registered breeder of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels (CKCS) with a reputation for breeding healthy dogs. This led me to approaching Anne Dobie of Glengariff Kennels and soon after my husband and I took home our first pedigree pet dog who we named Ella. Anne and I went on to become good friends and two years later, I accompanied her to the Central Cavalier & King Charles Spaniel Club funday and a Ribbon Parade. Sadly, the following week our beloved Ella was killed in a heartbreaking road accident due to no fault of our own.
I was grateful to be offered the pick of Anne's next litter, being Leila (Glengariff Calayla). This was the beginning of our journey with Dogs NZ (formerly the New Zealand Kennel Club) in showing and breeding registered pedigree Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. In memory of our Ella being our first CKCS, we decided on "Ellamour" as our Kennel name. Over the following few years, we acquired 2 more girls, Ellie (Glengariff She's Cool Like Dat) and Boots (CH Glengariff Carryngton). Anne's generosity in sharing her lines, along with her mentorship and ongoing support, has enabled us to continue on breeding responsibly for the betterment of the breed. For this my husband Paul and I are forever thankful.
We are delighted to have had our three founding girls from Glengariff Kennels (Est 1975). As a highly respected and reputable breeder of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Anne has been carefully choosing her pedigree for many years. Her association with the Homerbrent style of Cavalier began in the early 1980's with the acquisition of Amantra Kings Rhapsody, Homerbrent Cardinham and Homerbrent Junesta, imported from the UK.
Homerbrent Cardinham become the first CKCS to be a NZ Grand Champion and went on to sire many more Champions including GR CH Glengariff Carnaby. It is a privilege to have dogs today, whose pedigree can be traced back through history to these wonderful examples of the breed.
We are also honored to be entrusted with pedigrees from international breeders including Chantismere Fearghal (IMP UK) and INT MULTI CH Riverdale Of An Excellent Choice (IMP The Netherlands). It is exciting to see these respected pedigrees come together and look forward to what the future brings.
